Manchester United attempted to sign West Ham United youngster Reece Oxford last season, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The report claims that the Red Devils, as well as the duo of Arsenal and Liverpool previously pursued the 16-year-old, who is now recognised as one of the most exciting teenagers in the Premier League.

Oxford, of course, starred at the Emirates this past weekend as West Ham secured a shock 2-0 win against Arsenal, but it appears that he could have departed the Hammers before the start of this campaign.

It appears, then, that Manchester United, under the guidance of Dutch boss Louis van Gaal, looked at securing the services of the talented ace, who signed his first professional deal with West Ham back in January.

Oxford, then, looks set to stay in the spot light as he continues his development in the game, and the West Ham faithful will no doubt be hoping he stars at the club for many years to come.

Great decision

And, without a doubt, Oxford really did make a fine decision by opting to stay at West Ham and sign a deal with the club.

Ultimately, he owes the club so much having come up through the ranks, and it appears to be the perfect place for him to continue to rise up the footballing ladder.

If he had joined any of the Premier League big-boys then there's no way he'd be anywhere near the first-team, so he now has the platform to prove himself week in, week out over many years at Upton Park.
