Former Raw General Manager unveils new gimmick

It's been almost a year since Raw General Manager Brad Maddox was relieved of his duties by The Authority, but finally he made his return at last night's Smackdown tapings.

Maddox had dyed his hair blonde and announced to the crowd that his new ring name was in fact Joshua Kingsley before his dark match between Smackdown and Main Event tapings where he defeated Zack Ryder.

The last few weeks have seen Kingsley team up with another superstar in need of direction in Adam Rose. The two have had an on-going feud with Curtis Axel and Damien Sandow at house shows where they call themselves "Beef Mode."

It still remains to be seen whether or not WWE bring both Rose and Kingsley to the main roster together, after all his big reveal last night was for house show guests only and wont actually be broadcast on Smackdown.

There is also talk of Rose changing to a new character, potentially a magician. Whether or not that would fit in with this new tag team is another big question.

The tag team division right now is in need of a new injection, it seems to be just The Prime Time Players vs The New Day at most pay-per-views lately and The Lucha Dragons and Los Matadores have a look in every now and then.

These two could add something different, but you have to think the likes of Enzo and Cass or Blake and Murphy are ahead of them to be called up to the main roster. Rose and Kingsley should see how the Full Sail crowd react to them before WWE push them further.

It does seem strange to unveil Brad Maddox's new character on his own if Adam Rose is also changing characters and is part of his tag team. It is also strange that he then went on to have a one-on-one match with Zack Ryder instead of a tag match.

Maddox was never used appropriately by WWE, he was first a referee before being brought in as a General Manager and he was often overshadowed by Vickie Guerrero. It was made apparent the whole time he was being manhandled by The Shield and Kane that he could actually wrestle but he never had a decent opportunity to prove it.

Maybe WWE are finally ready to give a newly blonde Kingsley the chance that they never gave to Maddox. It could be interesting to see where he goes from here, the weeks following SummerSlam could be important for both hm and Adam Rose.
