Roma captain Francesco Totti could be facing up to six months on the sidelines following an operation on his right knee on Sunday afternoon.

Totti was substituted in the 39th minute of his team´s 1-1 draw at home to Livorno on Saturday night with a recurrence of a cruciate ligament problem and is set to undergo surgery at Rome´s Villa Stuart hospital.

The surgeon operating on Totti, professor Pierpaolo Mariani, expects the 31-year-old´s recovery to take five or six months although Roma´s chief medic Mario Brozzi is optimistic he will be back on the pitch in four.
