Manchester City will become title favourites by signing De Bruyne

Football News

Manchester City have made a massive statement of intent in this summer transfer window, with he capture of Fabian Delph to add strength to their midfield, and the high profile £49million signing of Raheem Sterling.

They made a brilliant start to the campaign as well, with two Yaya Toure goals and a Vincent Kompany header proving too much for West Brom on the opening weekend.

City are still a way off being considered favourites for the title, but many pundits believe they are one top player away from recapturing their crown. Could Kevin De Bruyne be that man?

The missing link?

De Bruyne of course has Premier League experience behind him, albeit with an unsuccessful spell at Chelsea.

After transferring to VfL Wolfsburg last season, De Bruyne took to the Bundesliga like a fish to water, scoring 10 goals, adding an amazing 21 assists. City have now seen this and feel he is the man to take them back to dizzy heights associated with winning the Premier League.

Wolfsburg had said before that they weren't looking to sell De Bruyne in this window, and there were even rumours that the Bundesliga club were set to offer him a new and improved five year deal.

City march on

It looks now though that City have stolen a march to sign the 24-year-old, who will want to prove himself in the Premier League after his aforementioned disaster spell at Chelsea.

If the transfer is completed by Friday midday, he will be eligible to face his former side when the two title contenders meet at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, although it looks increasingly unlikely that that will be the case.

De Bruyne will provide yet another option in what will already be an amazing front line for City. The only thing that needs to be determined is whether the Belgium international will indeed be able to cut it in the Premier League at the second opportunity.
