Bernd Schuster hailed his Real Madrid side after they took another "small step" towards winning the Primera Liga title with a battling 1-0 win over Real Murcia.

Wesley Sneijder´s second-half strike, achieved despite the 19th-minute sending-off of full-back Miguel Torres, moved Madrid nine points clear of second-placed Barcelona with just six games remaining.

"I guess we can say these three points are very important when we look at the difficulty we had during the game," said Schuster. "This victory is another small step towards being champions at the end of the season."
