Considering Rex Ryan's recent decision making you would be forgiven for thinking he wasn't exactly Geno Smith's biggest fan.
If Geno's poor 2014 form playing a part in Ryan losing his job in New York wasn't enough the new Buffalo Bills head coach's decision to signed IK Enemkpali just 24 hours after the linebacker had been released by the Jets for breaking Smith's nose was a sign for some.
Now though, in a report from the New York Daily News, there are suggestions that the head coach actually openly considered the possibility of trading for the much maligned quarterback this offseason.

In an article discussing the fall out of Tuesday's locker room drama, Manish Mehta alluded to the surprise interest:
"Ryan believed in Smith despite all of the quarterback’s flaws. Shortly after getting the Bills job, he wondered out loud to friends whether the Jets would be open to trading Smith to Buffalo.”
Now, after events this week, there is absolutely no chance of Geno Smith arriving in Buffalo as long as his newly acquired nemesis is on the roster but the anecdote certainly makes for an excellent side not to the drama.
Bills question marks
Aside for that however, Ryan's open musing about the potential availability of Smith so soon after arriving at the Bills himself is yet another sign the coach has little faith in Geno's fellow young quarterback, EJ Manuel.
With Matt Cassell and Tyrod Taylor having arrived to compete against Manuel for the Bills starting job it looks like Manuel is facing a battle to stay of the bottom of the depth chart. A fate that Geno Smith could suffer when he returns from injury.
