Werder Bremen moved into second place in the Bundesliga standings on Saturday courtesy of a thumping 5-1 win over Schalke.

Bremen opened up a two-goal lead through Frank Baumann and Boubacar Sanogo before Kevin Kuranyi pulled one back for the visitors shortly before the interval.

Further strikes from Markus Rosenberg and Ivan Klasnic (two) secured a second successive win for Bremen and moved them to within seven points of leaders Bayern Munich, who play host to Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.
