Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has revealed that the duo of Manchester United and Manchester City have launched bids for Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi.
Taking to twitter, Balague claims that the La Liga outfit are considering the offers, but neither United or City have reached the player's €50 million buyout clause, as they go about improving their back-lines.
United and City, of course, have endured their problems defensively over the course of the last 12-months or so, so it's not entirely surprising that both clubs appear to be interested in the signature of the Argentine defender.

It's far from certain, however, as to how much the clubs have bid for the player's signature, but Balague goes on to claim that Valencia expect to offload their star defender before the close of the transfer window.
There's no doubt about it, Otamendi, who enjoyed such a fine season in Spain's elite division last term, is recognised as one of the leading defenders in world football, so it looks set to be an interesting couple of week for all involved in the saga.
Both teams in need
And, despite keeping clean sheets in their opening Premier League fixtures, both United and City could do with adding to their back-line sooner rather than later.
Manchester United, under the guidance of Louis van Gaal, have certainly had their problems and still look vulnerable at the back. The prospect of versatile midfielder Daley Blind playing at the back for the remainder of the season is certainly a worrying one for the United faithful, who certainly expected a top name defender to arrive by now.
City fans, on the other hand, will expect much better from captain Vincent Kompany this time round, while Eliaquim Mangala will also be desperate to settle to Premier League life after a disappointing campaign in 2014/15.
