Memphis Depay has explained the crazy feeling of playing alongside Wayne Rooney, and revealed the Manchester United captain used to be one of his favourite players on the PlayStation.

Memphis made his debut for the Red Devils in the 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur and is expected to continue his role behind Rooney tonight at Villa Park.

The 21-year-old revealed he could not pick one player who he most looked forward to playing with at United, but admitted it was a bit surreal playing alongside the current England captain.

As per the Independent, he said: "I don't have one player, it's difficult to pick one player, but for example Wayne, it's a big step for me, it's crazy to play with him because a few years ago I used to play with him on the PlayStation and now we play with each other."

Depay also said that 'everything' attracted him to the club, saying: "[it's] Such a different club. Different history, [it's a] different level in the Premier League. I'm very excited to play in the Premier League this year and very happy to make my debut."

Depay struggled to make the desired impact on his debut, but the signs were there he has the necessary qualities to become a success in the Premier League.

Van Gaal is insistent the former PSV player occupies the number 10 position as a second striker in the United line-up, but has not ruled out the possibility of switching Memphis back to a wide position.

Given time to adapt, Memphis has the quality to become as devastating behind Rooney as he was in the Eredvisie in a wide position. He has the physicality, skill and pace, his major stumbling block will be the time he gets on the ball, but it should not take him too long to adapt.
