Football News
French Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes has launched a strong defence of the country´s match officials following heavy criticism of them over the past week.

Eric Poulat was slammed for awarding Bordeaux a penalty and sending off Nancy´s Jonathon Brison, Valenciennes coach Antoine Kombouare will not shake hands with officials before Saturday´s match at Caen after being sent to the stands last weekend and Laurent Duhamel was blasted for awarding Paris St Germain a penalty in the Coupe de la Ligue final.

Many are claiming the standard of refereeing in France has plumbed new depths, but Escalettes told L´Equipe: "To be honest, I am fed up with it. I honestly do not believe the referees are worse than previous years."
