Football News

Chelsea have confirmed that midfielder Nathan Ake has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal with the club, but will spent the rest of this season on loan with newly-promoted Watford.

The Blues tweeted the information from their official Twitter account, following mass speculation that the talented youngster was set to pledge his future to Stamford Bridge.

Ake's deal

Ake is seen as a promising player for the future and the decision to loan him to Watford rather than to a foreign party - as Chelsea so often do with rising talent - could well be seen as proof that Jose Mourinho wants to keep a close eye on his development.

The 20-year-old moved to west London in 2011 as a youth prospect and has featured for Chelsea’s senior side 12 times across all competitions - five of those appearances have been in the Premier League.

Talented young stars

He’s part of an exciting crop of burgeoning stars trying to force their way into Mourinho’s plans, and it’s fair to say a good many Blues fans will be watching his performances for Watford with interest.

The decision to tie him to such a lengthy deal further alludes to the theory that Ake has done enough to make the powers that be at Stamford Bridge believe he could be a real force in the first-team in years to come.

Competition for places

At the moment the Chelsea midfield is bursting with world-class talent, so it’s obviously better for him to move elsewhere and get proper experience, but that’s not to say he won’t be offered the chance to play under Mourinho next year if he impresses whilst at Vicarage Road.

Chelsea fans, do you think Ake could become a star for your club? Are you happy he’s signed a new deal? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.
