Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted every player in the squad knows their role at club, following claims from Jose Enrique that a number of first-team players had been frozen out.

The Spaniard claimed that Liverpool had thrown himself, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini to the curb, but Rodgers has said every player knows exactly where they stand.

The Anfield boss also expects a number of players to depart from Merseyside in search of more playing time.

As per the Liverpool Echo, Rodgers said: “I think it’s natural at this stage of the season, there will be moves I’m sure for some players.

“What’s clear is that every player has the understanding of exactly where they stand within the squad. The spirit is strong, it’s fine but of course it's a difficult situation because of the transfer market and it’s still open until the end of this month.

“There’s always going to be that speculation but I’m sure there will be some movement, obviously, of some of the players that want to play.”

Enrique, Balotelli and Borini have become peripheral figures over the summer with Rodgers shaking up his squad following a below par campaign.

None of the players linked with a move away from Anfield will be missed by the club, as the manager has been able to bring in better replacements.

Enrique has fallen behind Joe Gomez and Alberto Moreno in the pecking order, while Balotelli and Borini have been replaced with Christian Benteke, Danny Ings and Divock Origi.

It appears Lucas' time on Merseyside is coming to an end after he was left out of the squad for the opening day trip to Stoke City, and has been linked with a move to Juventus.

The decision to get rid of Lucas could come back to hurt Rodgers if a suitable replacement is not brought in.

He is a player who does the unfashionable work well and offers a fantastic platform for the attacking players to express themselves.

Rodgers may be looking to Emre Can to replace the Brazilian in defensive midfield, but Lucas has a large amount of experience and would be sorely missed on Merseyside.
