Scheringa holds out van Gaal hope

Football News
AZ Alkmaar chairman Dirk Scheringa has reaffirmed his view that coach Louis van Gaal could remain at the club beyond the end of the season.

Scheringa announced last week that the former Barcelona and Holland boss, who is under contract at the DSB Stadion until 2010, would leave his post by "mutual agreement" at the end of the season following a disappointing campaign.

But the chairman believes an upturn in form could keep van Gaal at the club and he told Sportweek magazine: "We have had four fantastic years and now we are in a difficult phase, but I think we will come stronger out of it, with Louis van Gaal."
