We begin in the NFL where Eli Manning and the New York Giants are struggling to agree on a new contract extension.

According to reports, the two-time Super Bowl champion is seeking to surpass reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers and become the league's highest-paid player, a figure that far surpasses the Giants' valuation.

Elsewhere in the league the Arizona Cardinals have boosted their options at running back with the signing of Chris Johnson. The three-time Pro Bowler has agreed to a one year contract.

Across to the NBA and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is to have foot surgery today.

The third overall pick of the 2014 draft already had to sit out his entire rookie season and today's procedure will likely rule him out of the upcoming campaign, too.

And finally, in baseball, New York Yankees pitcher Bryan Mitchell left their game against the Minnesota Twins last night with a nasal fracture after being struck by a line drive in the second inning.

The NYC franchise are said to be closely evaluating the situation.
