Marseille president Pape Diouf has spoken of his "disgust" at the racist chanting against his players that marred this week´s UEFA Cup tie with Zenit St Petersburg.

UEFA have opened an inquiry after OM defender Ronald Zubar claimed he was the victim of racist abuse from Zenit fans while he was warming up during the last-16 second leg on Wednesday. Zubar and French sports minister Bernard Laporte have called for severe sanctions to be taken and Diouf insists he will do everything in his power to protect his players after an incident he described as "odious".

"All the witnesses agree there were acts of racism against some of our players who were warming up," he said.
