Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann took to Twitter last night during Manchester United's Champions League's play-off clash with Belgian outfit Club Brugge.

The former Real Sociedad midfielder sent a tweet about Wayne Rooney after the Red Devils' captain produced a wonderful touch to set up Memphis in the second half.

Memphis, however, fluffed his lines in what would have been a hat-trick on his Champions League debut for United.

Ultimately, though, despite a moment of magic from Rooney, it was Memphis who stole the show as he scored twice and created the final goal of the evening for Marouane Fellaini to head home late on to secure United a 3-1 win on the night.

Rooney and Co. will now return to Belgium next Wednesday in an attempt to secure their place in the group stages of Europe's elite competition.

Rooney magic

Unsurprisingly, fans of United quickly responded to Griezmann's tweet last night, and didn't hold back when asking him to join the club...

Work to be done for Rooney

There's no doubt about it, despite one of the touches of the game at Old Trafford last night, there's still work to be done for Wayne Rooney after a disappointing start to the campaign.

At the end of the day, the England international still appears to be a long way off from finding his best form, so will no doubt be hoping to prove his credentials up front sooner rather than later.

Up next for Rooney, of course, is a home clash against Newcastle United, and he will be looking to score his first goal of the campaign for the Red Devils, as United go in search of making it three wins from three in England's elite division.
