Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan has been offered a huge contract to join Al Ahli this summer - but he is still desperate to join Manchester United.

The Argentinian international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time now, however a move has never materialised.

Boss Louis van Gaal has already bolstered his midfield options by landing Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin to go alongside the likes of Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick, which means a move for Gaitan is highly unlikely.

However according to Portuguese newspaper Record he is still desperate for Manchester United to come calling despite the fact he has a lucrative offer on the table from the middle east.

According to Record, Al Alhi have offered him a contract worth €3.5 million every season in order to persuade him to move.

Instead the midfielder will hold on to see if an offer comes from England, even if it isn't Manchester United, or Spain before making his decision because he doesn't want to drop down a level by heading to the United Arab Emirates.

Valencia and Atletico Madrid have been linked with a potential swoop for his services, although neither have lodged a concrete offer as yet.

Manchester United meanwhile are still on the lookout for the latest edition to their squad, however that man won't be Barcelona's Pedro, who is close to completing a move to Chelsea despite serious interest from the Red Devils.
