Schalke chairman Clemens Tonnies has told under-fire coach Mirko Slomka he will not be sacked even if they crash out of the Champions League to Porto on Wednesday.

A 1-0 loss at home to Bayern Munich on Saturday was the club´s third successive Bundesliga defeat and leaves them 12 points off top spot.

The Royal Blues now take a 1-0 advantage from the first leg with them to Portugal, but Tonnies insists Slomka´s future does not hinge on the outcome of Wednesday´s match, saying: "We are fully behind Slomka and even if we go out to Porto, he will still be our coach."
