Manchester United would consider taking Real Madrid starlet Borja Mayoral as part of a deal that sees David de Gea head the other way this summer, according to reports.
ESPN sources claim that the Red Devils might be interested in a player-plus-cash offer from Spain, with Real still intent on landing De Gea before the end of this summer’s transfer window.
Thus far United have been stubborn in their negotiations with Real, and won’t allow their number one to leave for anything less than the record-breaking £32.6million Juventus paid for Gianluigi Buffon back in 2001.

That’s in spite of the fact that De Gea has just one year left on his current Old Trafford deal, having reportedly snubbed the chance to sign a new contract, meaning he could well be lost on a free transfer if the matter isn’t resolved in some way.
As it stands United are attempting to find a way around the sticking point that is the aforesaid sum - which Real apparently don’t want to pay - and are ready to request the services of the highly-rated Mayoral in return.
Mayoral the man
Initially it was Sergio Ramos who Louis van Gaal was chasing as compensation for if De Gea left the club, though his new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu puts a solid brick wall in front of that proposition.
Now it remains to be seen whether or not Real will consent to serving up Mayoral on a silver platter.
The 18-year-old impressed last year for both club and country - he played in Spain’s U19 side at the European Championship and helped them to the trophy - notching seven goals in seven appearances for Zinedine Zidane’s Real Castilla side.
As a result he’s a precocious commodity, and Real aren’t usually in the business of allowing such players to leave.
The fact that they can wait 12 months and potentially pick De Gea up for nothing could be key, and they already have both Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla to see them through the forthcoming campaign.
United fans, do you think you’ll be able to get Mayoral plus cash in return for De Gea? Is that a good deal? Let us know in the comments box below.
