Ameer Abdullah is rising name in the National Football League.

The young  running back came in to pre-season training as someone who would find himself stuck down the pecking order at the Detroit Lions,

With Joique Bell being the clear starter and Theo Riddick, who will be entering his third year in the NFL, as the backup, it seemed like Abdullah would do well to even see a football field in his rookie year.

However, after an injury to Bell that will see him miss some time out, and Abdullah performing well in practice, the former Nebraska man is now gearing up for a starting role with the Lions offense come week one of the regular season.

Albert Breer of wrote about the Lions training camp and the NFL insider said that Abdullah was set for a big season.

"Plenty of ink has been spilled on the Nebraska product over the last few days, following his electric debut against the Jets. But what might be missed is how well he fits what Lombardi wants to do," Breer wrote.

He then went on to add with offensive options like Eric Ebron, Golden Tate and Calvin Johnson stretching the field, Abdullah will find a lot of joy catching passes out of the backfield, which is joy to this writer's eyes after drafting him for my fantasy team last night.

"With big vertical targets like Ebron and Johnson carrying coverage down the field, having Abdullah underneath could be huge for Stafford, in the same way having Reggie Bush and Darren Sproles made things that much easier for Drew Brees in New Orleans."

Exciting times are ahead for Detroit Lions fans and Ameer Abdullah could be the best thing the Lions could have done in the 2nd round of the Draft.
