Werder Bremen midfielder Diego has been banned for three games by the German Football Association following his sending off for a crude attack on Eintracht Frankfurt´s Sotirios Kyrgiakos in Saturday´s 1-0 defeat.

The Brazilian reacted angrily to taunts from the Greek defender after being fouled, but admitted afterwards that there was no excuse for his actions.

"We accept this punishment, although at the same time we would have hoped for more leniency given the particular circumstances," said Bremen´s director of sport Klaus Allofs.
