Rewind to the middle of last season and Branislav Ivanovic was arguably Chelsea’s most impressive player, turning in consistently assured performances and keeping the right-back berth well and truly nailed down.
Fast forward back to present and his future is looking more uncertain by the day, with it now claimed that he’s grown frustrated with the fact that his club won’t offer him a long-term deal.
The Blues’ policy of only handing 12 month contracts to anyone over the age of 30 therefore could be a problem, with a number of other clubs thought to be interested in Ivanovic if it looks as though Chelsea are stalling.
Pogba green light
In more speculative news it’s claimed Roman Abramovich has given the green light for Jose Mourinho to try and sign Paul Pogba.
The Juventus star is worth a mooted £60m, so he won’t come cheap, but he’s certainly got the ability to help Chelsea retain the Premier League title. That said the chances of them landing him are suspect to say the least.
Stones move possible
Last but not least it’s said Everton star John Stones could force through his protracted move to Chelsea by handing in an official transfer request.
So far Roberto Martinez has been reluctant to entertain the idea that his young centre-back might leave Goodison Park, though the Blues are apparently preparing another bid to the tune of £40m.
