Football News

Real Madrid will open their 2015/2016 season with a meeting away from home with Sporting Gijon.

Rafael Benitez will be no doubt looking for a victory to celebrate his first official match for Los Blancos - the good news is he will be having all of his best cards to play in this fixture.

GK and defence

As confirmed a few days ago, Rafael Benitez named Keylor Navas his first choice goalkeeper, therefore it will come as no surprise to see the Costa Rican international guarding Real's goal against Gijon.

The four defenders in front of Navas should also be quite similar to last season, with Marcelo on the left and newly-appointed captain Sergio Ramos teaming up with Raphael Varane in the middle.

The only concern will be on the right side, where Benitez will have to choose between Dani Carvajal and the newcomer, Danilo.

Newly promoted Gijon

Sporting Gijon were only promoted to La Liga this summer, therefore Benitez can safely assign the duo of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in the midfield without worrying they will be overrun by the opposition.

Further up field, it is very likely that the fans will see both James Rodriguez and Isco in the starting line-up.

Under Carlo Ancelotti, these two playmakers were rotated based on their fitness status, however, since Karim Benzema has not fully recovered, Isco will be selected for the left flank, with Cristiano Ronaldo moving to the role of striker and James and Gareth Bale occupying their usual positions in the middle and on the right side.

Real Madrid fans, do you think that's how your side are going to line up against Gijon? Let us know in the comments box below.
