David de Gea will not be sold by Manchester United - Van Gaal

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has made a fresh statement throwing David de Gea’s potential move to Real Madrid into doubt, claiming that the Spaniard won’t be leaving Old Trafford.

Despite the fact that De Gea has been linked with a transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu for the duration of the summer, and that his contract is due to expire next summer, Van Gaal has made it clear that he wants to keep the 24-year-old - a point sure to anger those in Madrid.

Florentino Perez is a staunch admirer of De Gea’s abilities, and the only reason the free-spending president hasn’t added the goalkeeper to his Galactico project is because of United’s stance on a fee to date.

It’s been claimed previously that United were holding out for €40million from their Spanish counterparts, a sum Real weren’t prepared to pay for a player they might land for free next year.

In any case the ship for an agreement to be found between the two clubs appears to have past. Van Gaal took part in a written press meeting yesterday - as relayed by BBC Sport - and the idea that De Gea is moving on imminently certainly wasn’t left up in the air.

"I think when Manchester United wants a player he shall come, besides when a club isn’t selling," he said.

“It is the same with us. We are not selling De Gea.”

Of course whether or not that means De Gea will be handed back his starting berth in the United first-team remains to be seen.

So far this term Sergio Romero has been acting number one, only having conceded one goal in three outings.

United fans, do you think De Gea is going to leave Old Trafford? Should he be first-choice again? Let us know in the comments box below.
