Paul Scholes believes his former club Manchester United should sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic before the summer transfer window closes on September 1.
United have been linked with the technically-gifted Sweden international, who turns 34 in October, this summer but are yet to make a formal offer to PSG.
Ibrahimovic’s advancing years and astronomical wage demands could be a stumbling block for Manchester United, but Scholes believes the Red Devils need a top striker like Zlatan to ease the goalscoring burden on Wayne Rooney.

“You wonder if they’d take the chance on someone like Ibrahimovic for a year, maybe do something in the Robin van Persie mould,” Scholes said on BT Sport after Manchester United’s disappointing 0-0 draw with Newcastle on Saturday lunchtime.
Asked whether Zlatan would fit in at Old Trafford, Scholes responded: “Yeah, no problem.”
Scholes was then asked if he thought the charismatic Ibrahimovic would get on with Van Gaal, to which he replied: “I don’t care, as long as he scores goals.”
Zlatan and Van Gaal do not get on
Indeed, Zlatan himself admitted this summer that a move to Manchester United would be difficult because of his poor relationship with Van Gaal.
The former AC Milan and Barcelona star, however, added: “At the end, I think he is professional and I am professional. Whoever I work with, I never had this kind of problems, because at the end I need to do my job, he needs to do his job.
“And I think a lot of fights would happen, but that's something I like.”
Because of his age, Ibrahimovic would be a short-term signing for Manchester United, who are in desperate need of a new centre-forward.
But is he the best option for Van Gaal’s side?
