Karim Benzema posts Instagram picture to calm rumours of Arsenal move

Karim Benzema has taken to Instagram to put an end to rumours he was in London to complete a medical with Arsenal today.

The Real Madrid forward has been linked with a move to the Emirates throughout the summer and Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli claimed the France international was in London ahead of finalising his move to Arsenal.

However Benzema has posted a photo of himself in training with the caption "back to training" to quash any suggestion he will move to North London today.

Giulianelli claimed the Madrid striker was staying in a five-star hotel before being confirmed as an Arsenal player before the game against Liverpool, but those suggestions are wide of the mark.

But the Italian has not completely given up on his claim, tweeting: "Not confident there will be announcement of Benzema today, but before deadline day yes."

It was highly unlikely the tweet about Benzema would prove to be true and it is no surprise to see the 27-year-old in Madrid and preparing for Real's next game against Real Betis.

The fact that no official news stream were reporting this story was a major give away that it was not going to happen, along with the fact it would incredible strange to see an Italian journalist reveal the breaking news of a transfer between a Spanish and English club.

Arsenal have been noticeably quiet in the transfer window this summer, adding Petr Cech from Chelsea for £10m, but with eight days left of the transfer window Wenger is expecting additions in North London.

Rafa Benitez has insisted on a number of occasions that Benzema will not be leaving Madrid this summer, but a deal is not impossible if the Gunners were to offer the right amount.

There have also been links to a number of other forwards such as Edinson Cavani and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, while a central midfielder has been touted as an area to strengthen.

Wenger has acknowledged Arsenal have to spend to compete with their rivals at the top of the league, so expect some incomings over the next eight days, just maybe don't get too excited about an Italian journalist's tweets.
