Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has dismissed rumours linking him with a move to Arsenal with a firm statement via Twitter.

The France international has been strongly linked to the Gunners in recent weeks - even though Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has continued to deny the intense speculation - but Benzema’s latest tweet suggests there’s no chance of the 27-year-old leaving the Bernabeu between now and September 1.

The striker tweeted a photo of himself inside the Real Madrid dressing room alongside the caption: “For all those clowns who want to make believe things at my fans. Here this is my home! #HalaMadridYNadaMas”

Benzema’s latest tweet will come as a bitter blow to optimistic Arsenal fans who were hoping Wenger was about to pull off one of the most remarkable signings of his 19-year tenure with the north London outfit.

Securing the services of the world-class Benzema would have given Arsenal a real chance of challenging for major honours this season.

Arsenal fans react on Twitter

Arsenal fans have been reacting to Benzema’s post on Twitter - and here are some of the best tweets.

Wenger unlikely to sign a striker

With just a week remaining before the summer transfer window closes, it seems unlikely that Wenger will sign another striker.

Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott will continue to battle it out for the centre-forward position, while Danny Welbeck will also be in contention to start upfront once he returns from injury.
