Manchester United have had a £140 million offer for Brazilian forward Neymar turned down by Barcelona.

This staggering report comes courtesy of Brazilian publication Globo Esporte - and brought to our attention by The Sun - who claim Manchester United submitted the €190 million bid directly to Barcelona but have yet to make contact with the player.

Globo Esporte’s report comes days after The Sun and the Guardian revealed that Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward recently held talks with Barcelona over a potential deal for Neymar.

It was also revealed over the weekend, by the Guardian, that Neymar would be open to a shock move to Manchester United.

However, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague warned fans earlier today on Twitter that these recent reporters are merely another ploy from a world-class player to gain a more lucrative contract with his current employers.

Man United very unlikely to sign Neymar

Barcelona have no desire to sell Neymar, who scored a superb 39 goals in 51 appearances last season, and the South American is expected to put pen-to-paper on a new deal with the Catalan giants in the near future.

Neymar has enjoyed tremendous success at the Camp Nou since arriving at the club in the summer of 2013 and is now widely regarded as one of the top five players on the planet.

Barcelona are acutely aware that Neymar has the potential to succeed Lionel Messi as the world’s best footballer.

It would be a genuine surprise if the Brazilian ends his career without a Ballon d’Or.

Subsequently, no matter how much cash Manchester United are prepared to throw at Barcelona, it seems unlikely that they will land the former Santos star.
