WWE: NXT women steal the show yet again

The 2015 ESPYS - Arrivals

At NXT TakeOver Brooklyn last night, the co-main event stole the show as Sasha Banks defended the NXT Women's Championship against Bayley.

To get there, Bayley had to get through Charlotte and Becky Lynch. Bayley called out "the best," issuing a challenge to former NXT Women's Champion Charlotte, and won an exciting match.

Then, she defeated Becky Lynch in a number one contender's match. Having come back from an injury (a broken hand), the chance to face Sasha Banks was her chance at redemption, as Bayley has competed in title matches before and lost each one (including Charlotte's reign as champion).

Sash Banks had enjoyed a long championship run, including several successful title defenses. Having recently joined WWE's main roster called the future of the NXT Women's Championship into question.

Although it might have been safe to assume that Banks would be dropping the title soon, the women's mic work and the actual match at NXT TakeOver Brooklyn prevented the outcome from being so obvious.

Banks' new main roster allies Naomi and Tamina were in the audience but did not interfere in the match.

The match was filled with high spots and close calls, including high flying and submission wrestling. The audience was divided in support of the two women as they poured their hearts and souls into the match.

Bayley went on the attack as soon as the match started and showed some new offense, but the Boss quickly turned the tables. Later, Banks exploited Bayley's injured hand outside the ring, even using the ring steps.

One "finisher" was not enough for either wrestler, and they sold the entire match well. Bayley  reversed the Bank Statement, but Banks kicked out of the Bayley-to-Belly Suplex.

Then, Bank slammed Bayley to the mat with a "double knees" attack from the top rope, but Bayley kicked out.

It took a hurricanrana from the top rope, followed by another Bayley-to-Belly Suplex to pick up the hard-fought victory. Bayley's almost three-year journey in NXT has finally culminated in winning the NXT Women's Championship.

After the match, the Four Horsewomen of NXT (Bayley, Sasha Banks, Charlotte, and Becky Lynch) shared a tearful hug in celebration of Bayley's win. Hand-in-hand, they stood tall in the middle of the ring.
