Jamie Carragher humiliates Mario Balotelli on Twitter

Jamie Carragher has humiliated Liverpool flop Mario Balotelli on Twitter after claiming he would only have labelled the Italy international as a “bargain” at £16 million last summer if he was drunk.

Carragher was responding to a tweet from @Footy_Jokes which claimed the former Liverpool defender had dramatically changed his tune on Balotelli over the past 12 months.

But the current Sky Sports’ pundit tweeted: “Please find me that quote & where it's from I must've been drunk if I said it!!”

Several minutes later, Carragher received a screenshot from one of his own Daily Mail columns, the headline of which reads: “Mario Balotelli is a bargain at £16m if Italy’s No. 1 striker doesn’t harm Liverpool’s team spirit”.

Perhaps Carragher was drunk at the time, after all.

But Carragher, responding to the tweet from @DeludedBrendan, backtracked: “Thanks Brendan! A bargain compared to Ross McCormack which I think is a fair comment!!”

Liverpool fans expected more from Mario Balotelli

On Monday Night Football, Carragher said he “couldn’t believe” Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers opted to sign Balotelli in the first place.

But the majority of Liverpool supporters were cautiously optimistic when it was announced Balotelli had signed for the Merseyside outfit last summer.

Ultimately, though, it was an unmitigated disaster. Balotelli scored four goals in 28 appearances for the Reds and will spend this season on loan with AC Milan.
