Arsenal are hoping to receive some encouragement from French giants PSG before making a move for Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani.

This has been reported by the London Evening Standard, who claim that the Gunners are still hoping to secure the services of a top striker before the close of the transfer window.

In fact, the same report claims that the north London outfit are ready to turn their attentions elsewhere after giving up hope of signing French hit-man Karim Benzema from Real Madrid.

Arsenal have been linked with the Real forward for some time now, but it appears that he won't be leaving the Bernabeu behind anytime soon. And that could yet lead the Gunners to Cavani, who has endured a tricky time in Ligue 1, having failed to secure a regular role up front under the guidance of Laurent Blanc.

It appears, though, that with the futures of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ezequiel Lavezzi also uncertain, it's not going to be easy for the Arsenal hierarchy to sign Cavani in the coming days.

Cavani the man for Arsenal

There's no doubt about it, Cavani would prove a remarkable coup for Arsenal, as they go in search of securing success on both the domestic and European scene this term.

Ultimately, the forward has the credentials to become a leading player in north London, and the Gunners hierarchy should take a risk on him if they are serious about overhauling Chelsea at the summit of the Premier League table.

At the end of the day, the likes of Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud will score goals for the club throughout the course of the season, but Cavani really would take them up a level.
