Outgoing Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld has revealed his desire to lead a country at the next World Cup.

Hitzfeld steps down from his post at the Allianz Arena in the summer and is eager to give international management a go before retiring.

The 59-year-old told the Suddeutsche Zeitung: "I believe to have an experience of being a national coach would be a huge honour: to represent a country, to train a team towards a definite target and to qualify them for the 2010 World Cup. That would surely be a good transition into retirement for me."
