Koeman rues missed chances

Valencia coach Ronald Koeman felt his side spurned a great chance to take a stranglehold on their Copa del Rey quarter-final against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night.

Valencia won the first leg clash 1-0 at home thanks to David Silva´s 32nd-minute strike, but with Atletico reduced to 10 men as early as the 25th minute following the dismissal of Thiago Motta, Koeman believes his side should have done better.

"They (Atletico) have escaped alive," he said. "Before the game, we would have settled for this result, but seeing how many minutes we played against 10, which is not much easier, they defended well, they held back without creating danger for us."
