Paul Scholes claims David de Gea is out of order

Paul Scholes has blasted former Manchester United teammate David de Gea for his loss of focus this summer due to the intense speculation surrounding his future, describing the Real Madrid goalkeeper target as “out of order”.

De Gea has not played a single minute of competitive football for United this season, with Louis van Gaal opting to deploy summer signing Sergio Romero instead.

The Spain international is keen to secure a dream move to the Bernabeu before the transfer window closes next Tuesday, but the deal will only happen if Los Blancos meet Manchester United’s asking price for the goalkeeper who now has less than one year left to run on his contract at Old Trafford.

Scholes and Rio Ferdinand, who were working on Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Club Brugge in the Champions League play-off round second leg match on Wednesday night, believe De Gea should have been playing in the club’s most important match of the season so far.

When asked by presenter Gary Lineker whether he felt De Gea was being out of order, Scholes refused to hold back.

Scholes blasts De Gea on live TV

“How can you lose focus?” Scholes said live on BT Sport, according to the Daily Mail. “That's the thing for me. He is getting paid by this club, it is a brilliant club.

“They paid a lot of money on a young keeper to give him this chance. If the manager is right and says he has lost focus then yeah, I think he is out of order.

“He should be in that team playing. If it wasn't for him last year, they probably wouldn't be in this position tonight so they have to thank him for that.”

United want Gareth Bale in return

It’s currently touch and go whether De Gea secures his move to Real Madrid next week.

Manchester United, though, are hoping Real Madrid’s desperation to seal De Gea’s signature could open up the chance to sign Gareth Bale in return.

If true, that would be a deal that would surely satisfy all parties.
