Atletico Madrid´s already faint Primera Liga title chances may well have been extinguished with Sunday´s 2-0 derby defeat to Real, but coach Javier Aguirre has been trying to ensure the loss does not have any knock-on effect for their other trophy hopes.

Atletico have not beaten their neighbours at home since 1999, but Aguirre has warned his side there is no time to dwell on the result as they face Valencia on Wednesday in the first leg of their Copa del Rey quarter-final - a competition Real have already been knocked out of.

"It is one defeat more and there is no need to be pessimistic," Aguirre said after the Real match. "We are angry about the way in which we lost, but we have to be mentally ready for the cup because we have a very important game against Valencia."
