Luke Shaw favourited a tweet quoting Manchester United teammate Ander Herrera speaking about the team’s want-away goalkeeper David de Gea and the 4-0 win over Club Brugge on Wednesday night.

The tweet, from @UtdReport, features a quote Herrera gave to Spanish radio station COPE in which the midfield stated: "There is great uncertainty among all of you and all of us. You have to wait. It is quiet."

Shaw may have favourited the tweet because he is also unsure whether De Gea is staying at Old Trafford - or perhaps it was a complete accident. But it’s worth noting this isn’t the first time he has favourited a tweet from the same account.

De Gea was omitted from Manchester United’s squad yet again by Louis van Gaal on Wednesday night as speculation over the goalkeeper’s future continues to intensify.

Real Madrid are expected to return for the Spain international before the transfer window closes next week, but Manchester United will only agree to sell their unhappy goalkeeper if Los Blancos meet their €40 million asking price.

Sergio Romero is performing well

United would prefer to secure the services of Gareth Bale in return, although the Welshman’s desire to silence his critics at the Bernabeu means a move to Old Trafford is still very unlikely as things stand.

Sergio Romero has conceded just one goal in five competitive appearances for United since joining the Red Devils as a free agent - and that was an own goal by Michael Carrick - and may have done enough to convince Van Gaal that Manchester United already have a reliable back-up for De Gea.
