Manchester United fans briefly went into meltdown this afternoon after it appeared that Brazilian forward Neymar had left Barcelona - but not to head to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a record-shattering move for the forward as they seek to add a superstar to their line-up before the close of the transfer window.

Reports from Spain claim that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is so keen to sign Neymar that they would pay an incredible £240 million for his services.

Luckily enough for the Premier League giants the news that Neymar had signed for another club turned out to be incorrect - it was in fact 17-year-old Barry Cotter signing for Limerick.

Fortunately - or unfortunately for him depending on your perspective - the youngster looks incredibly like Neymar, just check his picture out below:

Of course Limerick were absolutely loving the surprise attention, despite the fact it was a former Avenue United and Ennis Town forward who will now play in the under-17 National League for Limerick rather than the global superstar.

The youngster doesn't exactly lack confidence either, very much like his doppelganger, saying after his move: I’m looking for a top-three finish, and on goals I’m looking to score at least one or two in each game for the rest of the season.”

Sadly for Manchester United fans Neymar looks like remaining with Barcelona for the foreseeable future. The 23-year-old, who scored 39 goals in La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey to help the Catalan club claim a historic treble, is contracted until 2018.

Do you think Manchester United will sign anyone else this summer?
