Football News

The San Francisco 49ers have quite frankly, had the worst off-season in NFL history.

After firing head coach Jim Harbaugh and hiring the completely untested Jim Tomsula, the 49ers then lost Chris Borland, Patrick Willis, Justin Smith and Anthony Davis - who all decided to retire from the National Football League in the same summer.

And it just got a lot worse, with the news that Ahmad Brooks has been charged as part of a sexual assault case.

Rape and Sexual Assault

According to a report from Tracey Kaplan and Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News, Brooks has been charged with one count of misdemeanour sexual assault, while former 49ers player Ray McDonald faces one count of rape.

This all stems from an encounter with a woman at a house party in December of last year.

If convicted, the 31-year old Brooks could face up to six months in jail and be forced to register as a sex offender.

The men were both accused by the same woman in an incident that took place at McDonald’s house. She says that McDonald raped her and that Brooks groped her after she fell and hit her head near McDonald’s pool.

Shortly after prosecutors announced the charges, the 49ers said they barred Brooks from participating in Saturday's preseason game in Denver.

"We take any charge against a member of this organization seriously and are in communication with the NFL," 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. "Ahmad is returning home to California and will not participate in Saturday's game."

The 49ers already looked like they were going to struggle in 2015, now things just got even worse.
