Chelsea interested in Ezequiel Garay

Chelsea could make a move for Argentina defender Ezequiel Garay before the close of the transfer window.

This has been reported by the Telegraph, who claim that the west London outfit could turn to the Zenit St Petersburg ace as an alternative to Everton's John Stones.

Stones, of course, has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for some time now, but it appears that the Merseyside outfit won't sell to the Blues in the coming days.

That may well lead Mourinho and Co. to Garay, who is currently plying his trade under the guidance of Andre Villas-Boas. In fact, Jorge Mendes, who is the agent of Jose Mourinho, also looks after Garay, but it remains to be seen as to whether the Premier League champions move for him anytime soon.

One thing's for sure, Chelsea are seemingly desperate to improve their options in defence sooner rather than later, but they will have to push hard should they swoop for Garay.

Solid option

Let's be honest, there's a huge difference between Garay and Stones, so swooping for the former would be a strange move from the Blues.

Ultimately, the Argentine, at 28, is an established and experienced player, so would no doubt prove a fine coup for the club, but unlike Stones, he would very much be a signing for now.

Perhaps, though, if Mourinho and Co. are intent on delivering success on both the domestic and European scene this season, then adding Garay to their ranks wouldn't be such a bad move.
