Arsene Wenger has excited Arsenal fans after claiming that the club may go in for a late bid in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal have only made one signing this summer by bringing in Petr Cech from Chelsea in a £10 million deal, however fans have been calling on Wenger to bring in a world class striker as frustrations over Olivier Giroud and his performances begin to grow.

The Gunners had been heavily linked with Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema all summer, however the France international took to social media to completely rule himself out of a move to the Emirates Stadium.

But Wenger has reinstated hope to Arsenal fans speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of their trip to Newcastle on Saturday afternoon. He said: "I am always confident that a last-minute situation or solution is available".

Arsenal are yet to win a home game this season and, with Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott having only scored one goal between them, fans are urging Wenger to bring in a new striker, although it is still early days.

Recent reports have linked PSG forward Edinson Cavani to the north London club. A deadline day purchase of the Uruguayan international would be a huge coup for Arsenal and would undoubtedly make them title contenders.

Cavani has a staggering goal-scoring record, scoring 104 goals in 138 games after spending three seasons at Napoli, and after two years at PSG, the 28-year-old scored 56 goals in 96 appearances.

There aren't many strikers in the game with a record as promising as Cavani's, and as he reaches the peak of his career, this is Arsenal's opportunity to make a real statement in the Premier League this year.
