Manchester United have taken action to address their shortage of striking options as transfer deadline day approaches.

Wayne Rooney has failed to score in four league games this season and Javier Hernandez has once again been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

The Red Devils suffered their first defeat of the season with a 2-1 loss at Swansea City and have instantly gone about addressing their lack of goals this season.

According to French TV station BFMTV, via RMC Sport, The 20-time Champions have lodged a €50 million bid for AS Monaco striker Anthony Martial.

With the French transfer window closing today, time is running out for United to complete a deal, but talks are already on going between the two clubs.

The 19-year-old forward is one of the most exciting young forwards in European football and cemented his place in the Monaco side with 10 goals in 44 appearances last season.

The France under-21 star is yet to get off the mark this season despite being involved in all three of Monaco's Ligue 1 games.

Despite Rooney's hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Club Brugge, the Man United captain's performances in the Premier League have been below par. The 29-year-old has failed to open his account and never looked like scoring at the Liberty Stadium yesterday.

Javier Hernandez also appears to be out of favour at Old Trafford and could depart the club before the window closes. He was once again left on the bench in Wales with Marouane Fellaini coming on to support Rooney.

The Red Devils are desperate for a new forward and Martial has a lot of potential, but they really need a proven goalscorer who can hit the ground running in England.

The former Lyon forward's record of 12 goals in 62 career appearances is not the record of a proven goalscorer, but only time will tell.
