Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Anthony Martial after the forward was given permission to leave the France international camp to complete a move.

It was reported the Red Devils had offered €50 million for the AS Monaco forward and according to the French Football Federation he has been given special dispensation by coach Didier Deschamps to finalise his transfer.

The 19-year-old had been called up to the French national team for the friendly matches against Serbia and Portugal, and will return from the international break a Manchester United player.

A statement on the French Football Federation website said: "He [Martial] requested for Didier Deschamps permission to travel to England to sign a contract with Manchester United.

"Given the exceptional circumstances, the coach has acceded to the request of the player. Anthony Martial left Clairefontaine Monday at 12:00. He will return on Tuesday morning."

Martial scored ten goals in 44 appearances for Monaco last season as the club made it to the quarter final of the Champions League.

He was reportedly a target for Chelsea earlier in the transfer window but is now on the verge of completing a move to their Premier League rivals.

Louis van Gaal was confident his current strike force would be adequate at Man United this season, but having seen Wayne Rooney fail to score in the first four league games he has moved to bring in new additions.

With Javier Hernandez on the verge of completing a move to German side Bayer Leverkusen, United would still only have three forwards.

After odds were dramatically slashed on Charlie Austin joining the Red Devils there may be a fourth striker added to the books at Old Trafford.

Manchester United fans, can Anthony Martial score the goals the Red Devils have desperately missed this season? Have your say below!
