Manchester United offered chance to sign Emmanuel Adebayor

Football News

Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor has been offered to Manchester United as Daniel Levy and co. seek to rid themselves of the Togo international.

That’s according to a shock report in the Daily Mail, one that also suggests the forward himself would be keen to join up with Louis van Gaal’s squad.

Incredible rumour

Adebayor has been frozen out at White Hart Lane under Mauricio Pochettino, and hasn’t even been given a squad number this season. That’s all the evidence needed that he’ll need to find pastures new if he’s to play regularly again, although a move to United remains highly unlikely.

The crux of the rumour focuses on United’s need to bag an established striker before the end of deadline day, with Adebayor being a cheap and experienced option.

The rangy forward has played for the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid and of course Spurs, but even so his best days look to be behind him and he certainly won’t peak the fans’ interests.

On top of that is the fact that Louis van Gaal is thought to be close to securing a deal for AS Monaco star Anthony Martial.

Surely not?

The purchase of the youngster would be far more in-keeping with the exciting atmosphere the Dutchman is trying to create at Old Trafford, and if he arrives as expected there won’t be room for someone like Adebayor.

In any case we’re willing to write this one off as a no-go. Spurs might well be trying to flog the African left right and centre, but the likes of West Ham and Aston Villa make for far more credible suitors that Manchester United.
