Manchester United could sign Antoine Griezmann before the transfer window closes at 6pm this evening if they trigger the Atletico Madrid star’s £46.1 million release clause.
This is according to the Telegraph, who claim United boss Louis van Gaal has a “long-standing” interest in the France international.
It was reported in the Spanish press last month that Griezmann’s release clause had been increased by Atletico - from £43 million to £56 million - but this latest report suggests United could land the 24-year-old for a reasonable £46.1 million if they decide to do so.

Manchester United were involved in a chaotic day on Bank Holiday Monday, but today could potentially be even more hectic for the Red Devils.
The club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward still needs to get a deal for AS Monaco’s highly-rated striker Anthony Martial over the line - that transfer is set to cost Manchester United an initial £36 million - while there’s still a possibility goalkeeper Keylor Navas arrives at Old Trafford if Real Madrid are able to convince La Liga officials that the David de Gea paperwork was all submitted in time.
Antoine Griezmann would be a superb signing
United fans, meanwhile, are still hoping a marquee signing arrives through the gates of Old Trafford later today - and there’s no doubt Griezmann would be welcomed with open arms by the Red Devils’ faithful.
The Frenchman, who has scored 45 La Liga goals in his previous two full seasons, is already a world-class attacker with the ability to make a serious impact with one of the world’s European powerhouses.
Griezmann also set tongues wagging on Monday by posting a tweet which said: “Tomorrow, It’ll match! Stay tuned.”
Make of that what you will.
