Alves ban overturned

Football News
Sevilla defender Daniel Alves has won his battle against a ban and will be available to face local rivals Real Betis in the UEFA Cup holders´ opening league fixture of 2008.

The Brazilian full-back picked up a yellow card - his fifth booking in the Primera Liga this season - in Sevilla´s final game before the winter break against Racing Santander.

That would have led to Alves being suspended for the derby on January 6, but Sevilla have successfully had the caution overturned and the 24-year-old will now be available for selection for coach Manolo Jimenez.
