Aguirre urges Atletico to regroup

Atletico Madrid coach Javier Aguirre praised his side for their battling spirit after almost holding in-form Espanyol to a draw despite having Sergio Aguero and Mariano Pernia dismissed.

That left the Rojiblancos with two men less and over half an hour to play against an Espanyol side that had not lost in their previous 13 league and cup matches, but Aguirre´s troops managed to hold out until seven minutes from time, when Luis Garcia struck to earn the visitors a 2-1 win.

Aguirre said: "When we were left with nine players it was too much of an advantage for them. We are going away feeling sad. The effort we showed with nine players was remarkable."
