Former PSG star Edouard Cisse claims Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal 'killed' Argentine ace Angel di Maria at Old Trafford last season, reports

Di Maria spent a nightmare period in Manchester, as he failed to prove his credentials under the Dutch regime, however Cisse blames the United boss for the player's failings.

The Argentine international, of course, left Old Trafford behind after just one season at the club, and Cisse has tipped PSG boss Laurent Blanc to get the best out of the versatile forward this season.

He told Canal +: "He was a little short of sharpness in Monaco, but that's normal. He will bring rhythm and an ability to cut into defences.

"He will have a good manager. One of his best seasons came under [Carlo] Ancelotti. Van Gaal killed him. He must be left to express himself, he's an artist. Laurent Blanc will manage him and he'll have a very good season.

"The other objective for PSG is to stay unbeaten all season. It's never been done before in France. To motivate the players, it's an interesting challenge. Week after week, they would find new desire."

Both to blame

In truth, both Louis van Gaal and Angel di Maria should share the blame for the now PSG star's tricky year in England's elite division.

At the end of the day, after Di Maria's red card against Arsenal in the FA Cup in March, he didn't really get another look in at Old Trafford, but the writing was on the wall long before that.

Ultimately, he never really looked up for the fight in Manchester and clearly struggled to adapt to the English game.
