Lacombe pleased to stop rot

Football News
New Rennes coach Guy Lacombe tried to remain upbeat after seeing his side dumped out of the UEFA Cup at the group stage.

The Brittany club needed to beat Dinamo Zagreb by three clear goals to secure a top-three spot in Group D, but could only manage a 1-1 draw in Lacombe´s first game in charge.

Even though he was disappointed with the result, Lacombe - who replaced Pierre Dreossi in the hotseat at the start of the week with Rennes having lost their last seven matches in all competitions - saw some promising signs for the future, saying: "We stopped a series of defeats, so that is one good thing."
