Bastian Schweinsteiger congratulates Emre Can on Germany debut

Bastian Schweinsteiger sent a congratulatory message to Liverpool rival Emre Can after Germany’s 3-1 win over Poland in the European Championship qualifiers.

The 23-year-old earned his first cap for his national side after a string of impressive performances at club level, and Schweinsteiger posted a picture of the team dressing room to social media after, with the caption ‘Gratulation an Emre’.

Germany were the victors in an exciting clash with their European neighbours, with a goal from Thomas Muller and a brace from Mario Gotze negating Robert Lewandowski’s strike for Poland.

Can managed to get 90 minutes under his belt for Joachim Lowe’s side, who were of course crowned world champions last year when they won the World Cup in Brazil.

It’s safe to assume he’s in good hands amongst such illustrious company as the likes of Schweinsteiger, Muller and Mats Hummels, and it looks as though the more experienced heads in the Germany side are now being charged with helping to develop the next generation.

The next gen

Since key figures such as Miroslav Klose, Per Mertesacker and Philipp Lahm left the fold last summer after the triumph in South America, the new blood of Germany’s system is being given a chance to impress.

Can, given his form for Liverpool, might well be one of the most exciting youngsters to come through. Could he spearhead a new era of German dominance?
