Aberdeen conceded two goals from set-pieces as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid in Thursday night´s UEFA Cup Group B encounter at the Vicente Calderon.

Diego Forlan put Atletico ahead with a penalty on the stroke of half-time, before Simao Sabrosa helped double the lead with a free-kick that struck the post before hitting Aberdeen goalkeeper Jamie Langfield and going in just past the hour mark.

Aberdeen were on the back foot for large parts of the game, but they looked more threatening in the closing stages with Chris Clark firing just over the crossbar.
